If They Were Mormon They Would Have Had A Miracle!

December 30, 2013
" if they were Mormons they would have had a miracle! " What  I said while my companion and I were talking to a member about the Donner party.

Hey Y'all!  So since I talked to y'all just the other day I don't have a whole lot to report, My companion got sick after Christmas so we couldn't really do anything. But I have decided that just because I can't go out doesn't mean I can't add flame to to the fire of my own testimony, so while she has bee resting I have been reading and doing a whole lot of personal study time! And it's been amazing sometimes I wonder why I didn't do this more often before my mission.. Silly me!

But that's about all folks.. I loved being able to talk to y'all on Christmas!!

Love y'all

But I love you and I am excited to talk to y'all!!

Love you

Peter the Apostle had an Anger Management Problem!

December 16, 2013
"Peter the Apostle had an Anger management problem."-what the Bishop said in Relief Society yesterday

Hello!! So this week has been crazy and full and wow that's about all I have to say about this week!
So we had a wedding, a baptism, a temple trip, a Christmas party, A Christmas Festival  and  a Christmas Festival.

So the wedding and Baptism part- there was a less active who was living with his girlfriend who wasn't a member and the last sisters got in contact with the family.  Since they were living together they had to get married before she could get baptized, and the less active has been coming back to church so that was awesome. They got married on Friday night and Saturday Morning she got BAPTIZED!!

The ward Christmas party was really fun!  We had a soup bar and a picture slide show of the ward, and we sang songs and ate cookies and what have you. It was really fun- it took forever to set up though but it looked beautiful!

And to top it all off we got to go to the temple and that was awesome always loving being there! After the temple we got to work at the Huntsville Christmas Festival and I got to guard the train from the little kids. It was pretty fun- we talked about why we loved trains, and what our favorite part of the train was, and how we would love to ride the train, and we had races to see if we could beat the train. It was pretty great. At the festival there was a concert by the stake Choir- it was AWESOME!  It was a mini motab but it had a little southern swag to it. But holy Moses! it was BEAUTIFUL!! I cried like a little sissy lala- well all the other missionaries did too so i wasn't alone on that boat!

But I love y'all and hope y'all have a blessed week!

Soon It Will Be Christmas

December 9, 2013
Hello!! So this week has been full of rain and fun!  Had zone training and it talked a lot about having more trust in the other missionaries in the area and not being afraid to hand them off. So that was fun. I've never really had a problem with that but I guess other missionaries aren't wanting to pass people off.

We found out we are going to the temple on Friday and I am so excited!! This week we are having something major everyday! It's crazy! We are doing a lot of work with members and helping them in anyway possible. We've helped make cookies, snag carols, make Christmas decor and everything thing else you can possibly think of! It's been wonderful!

We are having our ward Christmas party this week! We are super excited! We will be going around the neighborhood and caroling and the best part... We are doing it in a hay wagon!! Whoohoooo!!

I hope y'all enjoyed the First Presidency Devo last night. I thought it was wonderful! I just love hearing stories of Christ and since it is the season of Christ what a better way to start it off then hearing the Prophet talk about the Savior?

I love you all and hope you have a wonderful week!

Grandma is Funky Like a Monkey!

December 2, 2013
"Grandma is funky like a money!"- what a little girl said to me at Thanksgiving about her great grandma.

Hello family! So emails are going to be coming a little later now. We go shopping and then email, so it's going to be around this time that email is going to be happening.

What  a wonderful week it has been with Thanksgiving and December happening! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving other than the fact I gained like 50 pounds! We had 3 dinners and I don't really want to see another turkey until next Thanksgiving.

We got to see a lot of members and investigators. Fayetteville has a lot of people to work with!  It's nice having people just come to you rather then having to search high and low for one person :) The people out here are wonderful!  They are either country or ghetto - my favorite people now. the sunsets here are killer! Someday we are all going to have to take a road trip to Tennessee! we are working with a women who lives with  her member boyfriend- they are fixin to get married so she can get baptized. They are so super sweet- they are one of the families that we went and had Thanksgiving with. Fun fact- people in the south don't believe in mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving.

So fun story for the day- last night I jumped in the car to go home and when I sat down the whole back of my skirt ripped in half bum hanging out and all.  Good thing it was the end of the night and that's what you get for getting a skirt at the thrift store for a dollar :)

Also if you haven't watched the new mormon message about Christmas you should, it's wonderful!  I've watched it like 7 times and it still gets to me every time. I love y'all!!

Just Call Me Sister Annie Oakley

November 18, 2013
Hey y'all!!!
This week has been a BUNCH of fun! We went and found some less actives that are happy to see that there are more sister missionaries coming out.

We got to go to a branch activity- they went shooting!   We couldn't shoot but there are no rules against holding the guns and taking a picture- as long as they aren't loaded.
I also got stuck in our dryer.. I wanted to see if i could fit and I could but it didn't want to let me go so that was fun... Not. I have a wicked mark on my back pretty sure it's black and blue so that's super exciting!

We went to a birthday party for Ms. Betty's daughter and it was really fun! We ate some good ol southern food and talked about The Lord and Football- the two main topics here down in the south land.
We also had a members daughter's birthday party. We had a cupcake fight the little girls got me with pink frosting, it dyed my skin I am still the tiniest bit pink on my nose :)  And another birthday for a member's granddaughter who isn't a member. We went rollerskating and ate pizza.   On the way home she was telling her grandma that she thought that the Mormon Missionaries we really nice and she wanted to talk to them some more so she might be coming to church next week!!

That's been this week! I love y'all to bits!

Happy Fall Y'All

November 12, 2013

Hello loves!
So this week has been full of something not exactly sure what but it's been full of it haha! I am starting to learn that God is trying to make me something and someone. I got a blessing on Sunday night and it said " Heavenly Father expects greatness from you." WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN??? I guess it means He had far greater Plans then I have for myself and I am just along for the ride. It also said " he expects me to bring many souls to him.." No pressure right?! But with God all things are possible right? Well that's what I think.
I'm trying for the life of me to remember everything that has happened this week and really can't think I believe my mind has become gumbo spiritual gumbo with prayer being the liquid of said soup.
We did have stake conference this weekend and it was good. It made me realize all the things that I need to change about myself the list gets a little longer everyday. But this life is for becoming who you were before this life and I fully believe that. We are given things to either better us or to make us learn something. Life is full or trial and error and I am finding I am doing that pretty well. Sometimes more fail but hey at least I get up and start walking again right? Don't get me wrong life is amazing and I love it. It's also crazy and kinda scary at the same time.
At stake conference a recent convert (Tyler Bush) who we have been working with was able to get the Melchizedek Priesthood he's been a member a little less than a year and getting ready to send his papers in so he can serve his own mission he keeps saying all the time I can't wait until I get to serve me own mission. He's the one who gave me a blessing. Sister Brunner and I were the first blessings that he gave. They were very spirit filled! I am grateful for men who honor their priesthood and know of the blessing it is to them and to those around them!!

Also funny story at stake conference President Hanks was there and The tallest Elder (Elder Nielson) was there and President said "I have the shortest Missionary on one side and the tallest on the other I need a picture! " So that is the picture I am sending to y'all this week. Also transfers are coming up they are the day before Thanksgiving. So be aware I might be sending you a new address
I love Y'all a bushel and a peck!
Love Your Sister Denning :)
Have a blessed day!

We Have Conversations From The Pulpit In Jasper...

November 4, 2013

Hey Y'all!
SO this week has been pretty groovy!  We had a fun Halloween- we got to be the judges for our branch's trick or treat! And the chili cook off! We decided to decorate our trunk- And it was pretty fun! we had 3 holes and we had someone hiding in the trunk so you reached in the holes and either someone grabbed your hand or you touched noodles or you got candy! A lot of people liked our idea our trunk was the talk of the trunk or treat! Whooohoooo! We also got to dress up and you all know my love for dressing up I was  a hippy fairy and sister Brunner was a butterfly on Noah's arc waiting for her eternal companion ( my idea)

The rest of the week not a whole lot happened other than I got sick.. again But I am starting to feel better now!
A few people have asked me what 123 kill is you play it with a soccer ball you keep it in the air 3 times by hitting it on your head or your knee and after the 3 time you catch it and throw it at someone and if they get hit they are out.
We also heart attacked like 7 houses this week. Heart attacking is putting stick notes on investigator's homes, less active homes and members homes that have scriptures or uplifting quotes and whathaveyou.
But life is good and the Gospel is true and I am a happy little lady in the southland! I am so grateful for the Atonement and for my Savior. I feel so blessed to be a part of a family that has such a strong love for each other and for the gospel!
Have a blessed day!

Take Superman Out!

October 29, 2013

Hello favorites! How are y'all doing? This last week went by like a blur! I can't really remember a whole lot that happened sorry.. My bad.
We taught a lesson to a women who we got from head quarters and she said she wants to be baptized.  Her baptism date is November 16 so we are working with her to get her ready for that.   She smokes a lot and we are hoping to help her get that out of her life.
Yesterday we had a zone play day and it went pretty much all day.  Our district leader told us to email today and what not. We played soccer and volleyball and 123 kill with a little soccer ball! I almost won 123 kill until A guy with legs the length of my height had to chase after me. Needless to say I got hit.
We are getting very excited for the Halloween party on Wednesday at our Branch! We get to judge the chili and the trunks :) I am excited for one of my favorite holidays! It's crazy that Christmas things are already in the store it makes me realize how fast time has gone by! People say when you only have a year left time flies and I believe it!
Life is going good. I learning that I am a different type of missionary and that that is ok i was called for a reason and as long as i am doing my personal best that's all that really matters!
I love you all! Thanks for the prayers and the support y'all give to me!!

Do You Mind If We Use Your Driveway To Pray?

A Zone Full Of Awesome Alabama Missionaries!

October 21, 2013
Hello!!!! So this week has been a trip and a half! This week has been FULL of miracles! Sister Brunner and I got sick but we knew if we tried to work as much as we could with our sickness we would be blessed and we were! We got a referral from Salt Lake and when we went to see the women she wasn't there but her son and his wife were there. They said we could come in and talk to them about what we were going to talk to his mom about. When he found out what church we were part of he got excited and said that his mom was wanting to get closer to the Mormon religion because her mother was a member and she wanted to do what was right. They decided as a family that they would find out more about the church and about what we believe. We were able to have a lesson about faith and how sometimes we go through trails that test our faith. After the lesson they asked if we could come back when their mom was home so she could learn as well.

Then yesterday while tracting we came across this HUGE house we decided that rich people need the gospel too and while we were walking to the house a guy popped out of a little hut and told us he was the security guard for the home and that the owner wasn't up for visits at the moment, we asked if he wanted to hear what we had to say and he said he would so we talked to him about what we believe. We gave him our number if he had any questions and we got a text from him a little later asking where our church was!  This gospel is wonderful! I am so grateful to be a servant of the Lord!
Love y'all!!

Love sister denning Have a blessed day!

Also today I am going with someone to get their Patriachial Blessing!

I'm Picky About The Bologna I Eat!

October 15, 2013
GOOOOOOOOD MORNING FAMILY!!!!
So our library was closed yesterday so we couldn't email me but today we can!
So updates!
WE GOT A BAPTISM... SURPRISE!!!
On Wednesday our branch president told us about a little boy who wanted to be baptized but because his step mother hasn't adopted him yet he is a convert baptism and he needs to be taught the lessons so Wednesday night we taught him the lessons so he could be baptized on Sunday so he is our first one is Jasper! His name is Eli and he's 8 years old Hopefully I will be able to get the picture to attach. :)
Tonight we are having a "missionary night" what means the branch wants us to teach them how to better share the gospel and what have you. They are also giving us gifts and stocking our kitchens with food we like so we are excited about that!
We met a less active member his name is Kevin I guess a lot of other missionaries have tried to get him to come to church but he hasn't but HE CAME ON SUNDAY!! We are going over this week with on of his daughters to clean up the house while he is at work and when he gets home make him dinner. It's going to be really fun! His daughter was telling us that he really liked us when we went over! He reminds me of grandpa Dietz a little bit so he'll just love me haha :)
We have transfers on Wednesday but I am staying put in Jasper. We told ms. Betty we might be getting moved and she asked if she could call president and ask if we could stay I guess she must have been praying really hard that we wouldn't move the branch is really happy we aren't leaving either so that's good news!
We went over to a member's home last night and their little boy named mason decided he wanted to draw a picture of me so he drew pictures together and took pictures of it, they are super cute. Also his little sister Claira doesn't like people but last night she wanted to be in the middle of me and sister Brunner last night and if someone else sat there she got mad it was cute!

But I love you all! Have a blessed day!

Small and Simple Things

October 7, 2013
So This is going to be a shorter letter just heads up Y'all!

So this week we've been doing less active work like no other. I am pretty sure I have become a personal stalker. No joke. We haven't see a lot of them but I now know where they live and where they work and what car they dive like i said stalker.

But this week i got a cute little letter from Sister Jensen's mom. ( new best friend from the mission we were in the MTC together I've said things about her before) She also sent me candy, it was just so cute because she doesn't know who i am but she took time out of her day to write me a little letter it was just so sweet and cute.
Conference was AMAZING! No joke don't believe me go listen to the talks.
After conference on Saturday we had a sing along at ms. betty's house and we sang and cut up and it was lots of fun. We got to meet people from here church and her pastor and had a good couple lessons with the people there. We sang "Lean on me" it was just a fun night. We were a little scared that they would want to bash and i've gotten in bashes before and I know how to handle them I just didn't want to ruin the night but she was so happy to have us come and talk to people about what we believe.
I'm learning that we might not agree with everything they believe and they don't believe everything we believe but in the end we all love Heavenly Father and we all love Jesus. I love the south!

Love Sister Denning :) have a blessed day!

I Forgot To Say...

September 30, 2013

So mean/ funny thing that happened to me this week so Friday we had our exchange and We got a call from "President" saying that I need to pack my bags because I was going back to Hoover and that I needed to call my district leader for more information about what was going on. while i was having a freak out we got a call again from "president" saying how i need to be nice to the elders and what not. Then it turned out to be another set of elders that are friends with my elders and they decided to play a joke on us. So I am the butt of all the pranks that happened last week. But it's all good we laughed about it and I am staying in Japser for the time being:)
Love y'all

Moroni Has The Best Comebacks!

September 23, 2013
Hey Y'all! i hope you are having a wonderful day like I am. so this week has been a lot of fun!

Last Monday sister Brunner and I got into a whip cream fight and it ended a little messy but lots of fun! We ended up going to a member's house for dinner then we had a sing along with our elders and some that are just a little bit out of our area. We sang songs to Ms. Betty and Ms. Vicky ( the women we live with ) and they both teared up. It's amazing to me how the spirit can be so strong in our music I loved every minute of it!
Tuesday we had our general authority visit and that was AWESOME!!!! It was a 6 hour training about missionary work and everything else under the sun during the last little bit he started having a few missionaries ask questions and I was 1 out of the 5 my question was " what scripture has helped you more in life then any other?" to which he said Joshua 1 5-9 I believe i don't have my notebook with me but I am pretty sure that was the one.
Wednesday We both were sick so we didn't really do a whole lot. we went out for a little bit but we both thought it would be better to get rest so we weren't sick for the rest of the week. Her's went away but mine still lingers how exciting :)
Thursday we had a lesson with a less active and her non member husband and grandson they both said they will be baptized on October 12! So we are really hoping that they are as excited for it as we are. Our elders made us chicken for dinner while we were doing a branch mission meeting.
Friday we talked with  a less active member about the Book Of Mormon and pretty sure she knows the stories better then I do. She told us pretty much all the stories with right names and everything and she got really into telling the stories it was super fun! Then we decided to go tracting in the mall. Door weren't working so we went were the people were. We met 2 ladies and had a really good lesson with them. They work at Belk ( Macy's ) And they asked for us to come back and talk to them again so we will be doing that :)
Saturday was Sister Brunners birthday so we went out for breakfast at a waffle house and went biking my knee changed colors afterwards and got swollen it didn't really hurt a whole lot but it was interesting the colors it became afterwards. Then a recent convert named Tyler made her dinner while we were at the church getting ready for Branch conference. I made really yummy mac and cheese for dinner and he made homemade chicken nuggets and mash potato's so pretty much had a normal southern meal haha Oh the grease! Also we met a pastor at walmart while we were getting a few things and he was shocked we knew the bible pretty sure he's one of those pastors that thinks we don't believe in the Bible and we had a good talk with him. I'm starting to think I might not be called to baptize all of Alabama but to leave people with goof thoughts about Mormons :)
Sunday we had branch conference and we sang in it and it went pretty well no one boo-ed us off the stage so that's a good sign! We also helped out in primary Sister Brunner played Piano while I sang with the kids.  Then we had a pot luck and y'all haven't had a pot luck until you've had a pot luck in the south.. just sayin'. While we were doing study time we got a call from president and he said that they (mission mama and president ) were in jasper and they wanted to stop by so in like .26294984651 seconds we had to clean up it wasn't messy just cluttered I've become kind of a neat freak.. so we were getting all that ready then they showed up and we had a nice chat with them. I love them so much I am really starting to see that Heavenly Father assigns missionaries to mission presidents.
I love y'all so much!! Have a wonderful day!!

Flip You A Twinkie

September 16
Hi Y'all! So this week has been really fun! I don't remember a whole lot what we did but I know I loved it!

Monday- was P day we went bowling. I will have you know I am a lean mean stinking at bowling machine! Then we went to hickoryland with ms. betty and her family it was really fun! her family is so nice to us they are so happy to see us whenever ms. betty asks us to tag along.

Wednesday- we had zone training 4 hours of action packed learning about how to be a better missionary!! We also ate at this mcdonalds and there was a ronald mcdonald hanging from the the roof I am pretty sure he eats children that don't finish their happy meals...

Friday- we got to so to the temple. We got to see the new video and it's amazing! I loved every minute! if you haven't seen it GO SEE IT!

And days between that It's a blur I guess I only remember really cool things.
Tonight we are having a FHE with Ms. betty and we are doing a sing a long we have like 6 elders coming with us we are super excited! we've been working on those songs so we sound good for her :)

Also I am finding people in alabama don't like to wear shirts and it's not the fit people no I am talking old white men in a grass skirt with shirts off. It's an adventure everyday down here in the south land. On sunday we got the chance to go with the elders to take the sacrament to an elderly women in a nursing home she was so excited to take it they gave her a blessing and it was just so sweet! Fun fact I am getting an accent you're prayers have been answered I will come home with one :)

Love Y'all!

Steadfast In Christ!

Just a little note to share...
Sept 16, 2013

My Dear Fellow Missionaries,

What an incredible blessing to attend the temple this past week with each one of you!

Didn’t you just love the new temple film?  Sister Hanks and I found it amazing that without changing any words, specific doctrines and events were made so much clearer.  Certain things were made even more noticeable to me, such as: Eve’s difficult and emotional choice, Satan’s devious nature, the happiness that learning about a Savior can bring to people, and more.

Along with attending the temple, came the blessing of seeing and rubbing shoulders with the best missionaries on the planet!  What a joy and blessing.

I hope you are as recharged, rejuvenated, and recommitted as we are!

I wanted to point out a few things about the temple.  I had the chance to share these two ideas with many of you, but not all of you.

1) As we attend the temple it is good to focus on the covenants that we are making with God.  Depending on how you count them, there are 4 or 5 major promises.  They have to do with us placing our lives in compliance with how Heavenly Father has asked us to live, with maintaining devotion to the cause of truth, with charity and love, with disciplining ourselves, and with “being willing to seek in every way to contribute to the great preparation that the earth may be made ready to receive…Jesus Christ.” (J.E. Talmage).

I ask you this… who best lived a life that demonstrated each of the covenants that you and I made in the temple?  The obvious answer is the Son of God.  Was his not the most obedient, loving, unselfish, completely committed life to ever grace the earth?

So, to me, the Temple is really about the Savior.

Sometimes we go to the temple looking for some new and great insight… and perhaps the greatest insight that lies right in front of us all along is that the temple is really about us making promises to God, that we will comport our life in some small way to be similar to the life the Master lived while he was on the earth.

2) A second idea comes from the dedication of the Kirtland Temple in DC 109: 22-23.  I think it applies directly to you… the Disciples of the Alabama Birmingham Mission!

“And we ask thee, Holy Father, that thy servants may go forth from this house armed with thy power, and that thy name may be upon them, and thy glory be round about them, and thine angels have charge over them;  And from this place they may bear exceedingly great and glorious tidings, in truth, unto the ends of the earth, that they may know that this is thy work, and that thou hast put forth thy hand, to fulfil that which thou hast spoken by the mouths of the prophets, concerning the last days.”   (DC 109: 22-23)

I testify to you that you have made promises this week in the temple that point you toward the life of the Savior.  Then you have gone forth from His Holy House, armed with power, surrounded by angels, and bearing “exceedingly great and glorious tidings.”

You carry the truth!

It was a wonderful week for me.  I pray it was for you!

I love you.

President Hanks

STEADFAST IN CHRIST!
